I have worked as a seminar leader and lecturer on the Philosophy in the Contemporary World module at the University of Nottingham, which explores some current ethical issues in society, including climate change, sexuality, education, implicit bias, punishment, animal suffering, privacy, and sexbots. I have lectured on the creation and use of different types of sexbot, and the ethical conundrums which they present us with. These include issues of objectification, consent, how sexbots should look, sexual inequality, and the nature of sex. I have co-convened a module on Philosophy of AI. In this module, I lectured on differing definitions of a robot, and problems of too broad or too narrow a conception. I also lectured on some important elements of human-robot interaction (HRI). I also led the seminars for these sessions. Other HE level I have convened modules on Medical Ethics, Philosophy of Health, and Social and Demographic Trends. These were for Access to Nursing and Access to Social Science courses. A Level For 14 years I taught A Level Philosophy and A Level Sociology. This involved convening and teaching all the modules of the courses. The Philosophy modules were: Epistemology, Moral Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of Mind, John Stuart Mill's On Liberty, and Descartes' Meditations on First Philosophy. The Sociology modules were: Families and Households, Education, Health, Research Methods, Religion, Politics, Crime and Deviance. I also taught A Level Health and Social Care for 3 years, and the modules were: Human growth and development, Communication, Disease, Positive care environments, Social aspects, Activities for health and wellbeing, Public health environments. Secondary level I taught in a secondary school through the Brilliant Club. this involved working with two classes of Year 8 pupils on questions and issues relating to the external world, including: Can we trust our senses?, Direct realism, Indirect realism, Global scepticism, and Idealism. Primary level I taught Philosophy to primary aged pupils in three different schools. With one school, I taught a new topic each week to Year 5 pupils. topics included: Knowledge, Art, Can we trust our senses?, The ethics of video games, Friendship, What is a good life?, Beauty, Am I the same person today as I was yesterday? Acts and Omissions, Killing, Belief in God, History and the past, Punishment, and Fairness. In the other two schools, I taught issues relating to me PhD thesis, including: What is a robot? How should we treat robots? Will robots take over the world? and Can robots be good carers? |
